Meet Dr. Raquel Sugino, DPM, MS, FACFAS
Dr. Sugino is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon specializing in comprehensive reconstruction of the foot and ankle. She is board certified in foot and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS).
Dr. Sugino advanced her surgical and clinical training by completing an additional year of fellowship at the Newport Advanced Foot & Ankle Fellowship in Newport Beach, CA. Her training focused on reconstructive forefoot, hindfoot and ankle surgery, including complex Charcot reconstructions utilizing Ilizarov external fixators, limb deformity correction, lower extremity trauma, sports medicine, total ankle replacement, and plastics procedures including advanced muscle, adipofascial and skin flaps for limb salvage.
Prior to fellowship, Dr. Sugino completed a three-year podiatric surgical residency at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, IL where she trained at the prestigious Weil Foot & Ankle Institute. Simultaneously, she completed a Dermatopathology Fellowship that specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of numerous skin and soft tissue disorders including skin cancer with Bako Pathology in Alpharetta, GA. She received her medical education from Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Sugino grew up in Wailuku, HI and received her B.S. in Biology, Minor in Music, and M.S. in Molecular Biology Infectious Disease from University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA.
Dr. Sugino has been very active in research throughout her training, and she has multiple awards for her work. She is a speaker at many conferences around the country, and she is an active member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) and the American Microsurgical Orthoplastic Society (AMOS).
Dr. Sugino is recognized as a devoted patient advocate who focuses on advancing patient care through research, education, and treating patients like family. She incorporates evidence-based medicine and the most advanced treatments and technologies specific to each patient. Her passion in research and remaining current on the latest studies has a large influence on how she guides individualized patient care.
Dr. Sugino enjoys training for marathons, soccer, hiking, camping, surfing, rock climbing, traveling, and spending time with her husband, Jason, and their rescue dog, Foxy.
